County Representative

Lillian Burry has served on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders since 2006. In 2008 she served as Freeholder Director, the first woman in County history to be elected to this position. Under her leadership, the Board made many improvements to the County government, including strict oversight of spending and budget practices.

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders was the only county government in the state of New Jersey that did not raise taxes in 2008. She would go on to hold the position of Director two more times, and presently does.Lillian

Lillian served three terms on the Colts Neck Township Committee, including stints as Mayor and Deputy-Mayor. Prior to that, in Matawan, Lillian was the first woman ever elected to the Borough Council. She currently serves on the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Planning Authority. She has secured 400 acres of open space and recreational facilities for the county, and she spearheaded the establishment of a Veteran’s Community Center. She was also appointed to the Fort Hancock-Sandy Hood Advisory Committee by the Department of the Interior.

She has been named person of the year by the Latino-American Council, the Fraternal Order of the Police, the Conservation Foundation, the Agricultural Commission, Marine Corps League, and Historic Association. She received the 2012 Spinnaker Award, and was the Grand Marshall of the “Open Space Pace (Save the Horse).”
